The new month brings another tip for where to go searching for an interesting film location. This time, we will focus on the locations where one of the TV Nova’s most popular crime series, Modrava Police, was created. The three series were filmed around the area of Modrava, as the name suggests, and other locations including Kašperské Hory, and last autumn even the centre of Pilsen.

Many things have been written about Modrava Police, so we will only briefly summarize some interesting facts - the actual selection of Šumava locations took a few months, but director Jaroslav Soukup had collected ideas for all three series for twenty-five years. Following the success of the series, a tourist trail “In the Footsteps of Modrava Police” was created in Kašperské Hory. The trail start and ends in the town of Kašperské Hory. It goes through the picturesque Amalia valley, the Kašperk castle, the village of Malý Kozí Hřbet and Pila Červená, which also served as a filming location for one of the episodes.

If you are looking for more reasons to visit this beautiful town, then here it is! Kašperské Hory live by film. Between 26 and 28 October 2019, the third season of the Kašperské Hory Film Festival will take place here. The festival programme offers films that are connected with Šumava - they were either made here or they tell stories of local people. For example, viewers can look forward to the new film Eel Squad by director Vladimír Michálek, which was filmed in Kašperské Hory, Sušice, Železná Ruda and Hartmanice. The Pilsen Region contributed CZK 400,000 to the production of the film last year. The film programme also includes a project called Vanished Šumava, which was inspired by a book by the local legend, Emil Kintzl. One of the main characters in the Modrava Police series was based on him. “We are friends with director Jaroslav Soukup. I told him various stories, which he used in the series. I also helped the film crew find interesting places for filming - houses, roads, bunkers. So the director rewarded me by using my character in the series,” Kintzl said in one interview. His character in the series is played by actor Ladislav Mrkvička.

Divá Bára, Přes prsty, Staříci (Old Men) and other Czech films will be screened at the Kašperské Hory Film Festival at the end of October. If you like Czech cinematography, nature or Modrava Police, do not hesitate to plan an autumn trip to cinematic Šumava.
